Comfort Quilts......Disappearing 9 Patch

The first Monday of each month we create 

Comfort Quilts

We are making disappearing 9 patch quilts today...

Ralph, the Quilt Palace Cat

36 inch 9 patch block

This large block will be cut into quarters 

to make 4 separate blocks

The blocks are now cut into sections...

we are ready to begin designing lap quilts.

The first lap quilt top is sewn together....

these go really fast!

I think we will have enough blocks 

to make at least 6 lap size quilts.

2 more quilts on the design wall 

ready to stitch together.

Circle fever continues here at the Quilt Palace...

The circle FUN continues...

Most everyone has a pile of circles stitched up...

Kathi has 2 rows of circles pieced together...

The center seed sections are topstitched down

When all of the rows have been stitched together...

the quilt is done!

No binding, no quilting......DONE!

Four of the Harlan Quilters have caught circle fever

and every Monday we make more circles!

We are beginning to seam the circles together

to create smaller units which will eventually be

stitched together into the entire quilt top.

 4 patch stitched together...

The acrylic template has all of the measurements 

you need for marking the circles for stitch lines, etc.

the next step is to stitch down all the curved seed shapes.

When this quilt top is done the entire quilt is done...

no binding and all of the quilting is done!

Comfort Quilts...

The Harlan Valley Quilters gathered together

to create a special comfort quilt 

for one of our neighbors.

Many hands make light work...

Here we are....all cozy tying

Every one of us has a special fondness for tying

Tying brings us close together...

away from the hum of the sewing machines...

nothing but scissors and thread and needles...

we usually converse about 

the recipient of the comfort quilt...

Luckily, our younger members...

 can reach to the center of the quilt!

We discuss future comfort quilt projects...

and we bond together in a circle of care

 for our community.

Kathi sews on the binding.

I have collected depression era fabrics for more than 20 years.

It is good to get them into a quilt!

This was a great winter retreat for us!

A FULL WEEK of non stop stitching.
