Comfort Quilts.......February 2011

The First Monday of every Month is...

Comfort Quilt Day

We create comfort quilts for members of our community:

Kathi is beginning design work on some free-form houses

She is using the build-as-you-go method...

How happy these little houses are...

It is a great way to utilize all those fun scraps you have been saving

I will keep you posted as Kathi makes more progress on this quilt next month

Betty is piecing another Wallpaper Quilt
This is a great way to sit at the machine and get your
Sewing Fix

Barbara has recently taught herself to do the
Quilt-as-you-Go
Method...

She quilts the blocks separately,
She Quilts the borders separately,
Next month she will put them all together into a completed quilt.

Claudette is hand sewing a binding down to the
back side of the quilt...

She has become our resident binder...
She does a beautiful job.

I am binding one of the Circle Quilts today...
Kathi completed the quilting on this in January, so it is time to finish it off with a fun binding treatment:
We thought a scrappy binding would compliment this quilt.
2 inch wide Strips were cut from all of the leftover fabrics from the quilt top.

I spent the afternoon piecing all of the strips together into one long binding.
This scrappy binding technique takes quite a bit more time to do, but the results are well worth it.

I forgot to take one last photo of the quilt with the scrappy binding sewn down to the top side.
Next month one of our members will hand sew the binding down to the back side of the quilt.

More to come in March...

Our Comfort Quilts and Raffle Quilts are created with donated Fabrics, Battings and Threads.
If you would like to donate cotton fabrics or other materials to this worthy cause, please contact LuAnn Kessi kessi@pioneer.net
